Testimonials

The Impact of Hear Here Hartford

HHH helped me grow as Deaf person and taught me everything I needed to know. I learned about how to self advocate, understanding the ADA Rights and most importantly, how to be successful regardless of my hearing loss.

I joined Hear Here Hartford when I started high school and it helped me so much as a student then and continues to now as an adult. I gained confidence in advocating for my needs by hearing from inspirational speakers and gained invaluable skills in communication and public speaking through the Toastmasters program - skills which helped me in college and which I continue to use in my career today. I made connections with many teens who understood what it was like to have a hearing loss and learned from adults who served as mentors for us. HHH was an amazing resource to have as a high-school student and I am so grateful for all the opportunities I was able to have by being a part of this chapter

Hear Here Hartford has been a wonderful champion of my personal and professional development. As a participant in the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program in middle school, I was able to sharpen my advocacy skills by learning how to create and convey a clear message to the listener, from a young age. These skills shaped my future and unlocked the door for me to later earn two scholarships from HHH, which greatly contributed to my bachelor’s degree. I am now earning my master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. HHH is an admirable network of positivity, support, and kindness.

Partners

We have learned that it takes a community to educate and support a child with hearing loss from their early years to adulthood. Hear Here Hartford partners with educators, parent organizations, and medical professionals from around the state. Each partner organization provides a variation of support that families and individuals with hearing loss will need at different points in their lives.

UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY

What does HHH Do?

Unity in the Community

Our organization and subsequent activities are comprised of individuals from across the D/deaf and hard of hearing community.

Support

We work to educate the community on the impact of hearing loss and to teach young adults with hearing loss how to self advocate.

Mentoring

You can make a difference by mentoring teens and young adults with hearing loss and help them realize their full potential.

Walk for Hearing

As a chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) we and our partners organize the annual Walk4Hearing in Connecticut.

Scholarship

Each year Hear Here Hartford uses funds raised at events to provide eligible students with college or graduate-level degree scholarships.

A Social Circle

Teens and young adults with hearing loss are often isolated. Hear Here Hartford events provide a social circle where they can connect and communicate across modalities.
